Events
Create and manage events: dates, categories, and where they show up
Events live in their own Events menu in the WordPress admin (calendar icon). Each event gets its own page, and upcoming events appear on the events listing on their own (allow a few minutes for caching).
Creating an event
Add the event
Go to Events → Add New Event. Give it a clear title and describe it in the body: what it is, who it's for, what to expect.
Set the dates
Fill in the start and end date/time fields on the edit screen. The end date matters more than it looks. It decides when the event stops showing (see below).
Add the details
Set a featured image (it appears on listings), fill in the location field, and add a short excerpt for listing pages. Assign an Event Category if one fits.
Publish
Preview, then publish. The event shows up on the events listing (allow a few minutes for caching). There's no extra step to "add it to the calendar."
How the listing works
The events listing shows upcoming events only, soonest first. An event stays visible through its end date, then drops off the listing on its own (allow a few minutes for caching). You don't need to delete or unpublish past events.
Event not showing?
Check the end date first. If it's blank or in the past, the listing treats the event as over. And if the dates look right but the page still shows stale content, it's probably caching. See the FAQ.
Where events appear
- The events listing: driven by the event dates, no extra step
- The homepage News & Events section: hand-picked. To feature an event there, edit the Home page and add it to the News & Events section's featured items (see Page Sections).
